The US Army Corps of Engineers has established the Louisiana Coastal Area program to address the needs of coastal restoration in Louisiana in collaboration with the State of Louisiana. One aspect of this program, the LCA Science and Technology Office, seeks to decrease scientific and engineering uncertainties associated with restoration projects, integrate the best available science and technology into the design, construction and operation of projects, and increase technical communication between coastal scientists and project managers.
The Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) mission is to protect, conserve, and restore coastal Louisiana through a comprehensive and integrated program approach that includes the implementation of hurricane/flood protection and restoration projects. CPRA's directive is to implement the Integrated Ecosystem Restoration and Hurricane Protection: Louisiana's Comprehensive Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast (Master Plan) to reduce the risk to economic assets; restore sustainability to the coastal ecosystem; maintain a diverse array of habitats for fish and wildlife; and sustain Louisiana's unique heritage and culture.
The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana's (CRCL) mission is to restore and protect a sustainable coastal Louisiana. CRCL is the only state-wide non-profit organization that has been working for over 20 years to restore Louisiana's coastal landscape. The State of the Coast is a continuation and expansion of the Coalition?s symposium and workshop program.
